THE POWER OF FOCUS, YOUR KEY TO THE FUTURE

If you want to move from where you are now to where you want to be in life, you need to understand the power of focus. In a world of distractions and competing demands on our time and attention, the ability to focus can keep us on track and moving forward.

To be focused does not mean to be obsessed or unbalanced, but to be determined and not easily removed from your purpose or intent. In a world increasingly aware of metaphysical influences in our lives, the power of focus is often discussed in a purely mental or spiritual way. People are waking up to the power of the cumulative effects of their thoughts and beliefs and are encouraged to focus on what they do want rather than on what they don’t want since we get what we focus on.

Reprogramming the mind with affirmations and using techniques such as self hypnosis help people to shift their focus from negative to positive thoughts and beliefs. Replacing beliefs that limit you with beliefs that empower you is an important aspect of using the power of focus, however the most practical and immediate application of the power of focus still lies in the life changing power of consistent action.

For example, if you decide to focus on becoming debt free, you will steadily take action towards that goal until it is accomplished. However, if you would like to be debt free but are not focused on it, you will be pulled in all sorts of directions by life’s demands rather than steadily working towards that goal.

One way to apply the power of focus to debt would be to take one action every week to improve your debt situation. You should start with actions that give the most immediate benefit such as debt consolidation so that your monthly debt costs are reduced. If you implement one new debt reducing decision every week, at the end of a year you will have made over fifty changes. This will totally revolutionize your financial situation.

Changes or decisions you could implement might include reducing expenses. In one week, you might decide to cancel your cable television subscription, in another week it might be something else. Do whatever works for you. Focus allows you to ask yourself the question: “What can I do this week that will move me towards my goal of becoming debt free?”

Once we move into adulthood, it can become very difficult to focus single-mindedly on achieving goals because our lives so often become busy, stressed and influenced by the needs of others. However, the power of focus allows us to move forward consistently without being obsessive. No matter what you would like to see improved, you can use focus to gradually transform your life. “One step at a time” is the essence of the power of focus. You gain the cumulative benefits of successive steps in the right direction. This way, you are able to transform your life without hitting the resistance that often results from making a lot of changes very quickly. Not that you can’t take that approach if you want to; you can. However, for most people consistency over time has a lasting impact whereas many people who make a lot of difficult changes quickly tend to reverse them later. This is why lifestyle changes are a far more effective way of losing weight than fat diets.

Once you harness the power of focus to achieve your goals and transform your life you won’t look back. Life will become easier and you will find yourself living the life you have chosen rather than reacting to the events of life. Focus is a powerful key to unlock your desired future. All you have to do is use it.
